Is Your Business Ready For Disaster?

Disasters are what they are, and they can be very hard to recover from. Many businesses aren't as prepared for disasters as they should be, and some don't realize it until it's too late.
Take Hurricane Katrina for example. How many systems have been damaged so far, as a result of the storm? CNet ran a good article today on how businesses should prepare for such disasters:
To make the best use of disaster-recovery plans, businesses not only need to take time to develop the plans but also test them before a catastrophe, said Ullrich [Johannes Ullrich of Sans Institute], whose company re-released a list of preparation tips to consider when faced with a hurricane.
Companies should conduct a full system backup four days before the expected arrival of a storm and have the data shipped off-site and out of harm's way. Subsequent, incremental backups should also be sent off-site, Sans advised. And, if possible, a final full system backup should be conducted just before the storm's arrival, with the data retained locally.
People in areas where disasters aren't as common may not think about disaster-recovery plans as much as they should, but there are plenty of disasters other than hurricanes that can devastate your business.
