Dell And University Of Miami Sign Campus-wide Computing Agreement

The University of Miami and Dell have signed an exclusive, campus-wide computing agreement that is expected to save the university approximately $2 million per year.
The agreement is the first of its kind between Dell and a major university.
By consolidating the technology purchases of each of the university's schools and departments, UM will leverage its purchasing and create a consistent technology platform across campus. The university has worked with Dell to streamline its procurement of both Intel-based client and enterprise systems across campus.
UM works to provide its students and faculty with the latest technology. About 95 percent of its outdoor areas and 60 percent of UM's buildings on campus are wireless-enabled, and nearly 4,000 students have set up free wireless accounts through the school.
"Supporting more than 15,000 students and 9,400 faculty and staff requires that we integrate technology as efficiently as possible," said M. Lewis Temares, vice president of Information Technology and dean of the College of Engineering at UM. "This agreement enables us to provide the customized products and services we need to serve the university in a proficient manner."
The University of Miami, a Dell customer since 1985, was named No. 2 in ComputerWorld's "100 Best Places to Work in IT 2004."
